✨ I Think I Need a Minute

Come, come sit with me, grab yourself a drink and pull up a chair... Okay, real talk here... I am so out of sync right now, it isn't even funny. πŸ˜‚ Y'all, my year has been moving soooo fast, putting one leg out to slow it down has NOT been working. πŸ˜‚ Let me start with work. I enjoy my job, but let me tell you, it has gotten even more interesting when you throw in travel... The stories I have about the airport... making sure you have everything you need to travel with, going through security, then you get the rental car and you just never know what you are going to get. πŸ˜‚ And I haven't even started doing my job yet. Okay, you got your first week of travel done and you're on your way back home... HOME. Mmmm... but when you get there, you want to meet up with friends and family because you've been gone. You need to do laundry, and then you need to get ready for your week... This. THIS has been me for the last five months. So I am sitting here today telling...

⭐ What Do They See That You Don't?

Come, come sit with me, grab yourself a drink and pull up a chair.

Let me ask you something...

Why is it so hard for so many of us to simply say... "Thank you" when someone gives us a compliment?

I bet that hits home for a lot of us.

Someone says something nice about us and instead of just accepting it, we get uncomfortable. We brush it off, make a joke, change the subject, or immediately come up with a reason why what they're saying isn't really true.

Why do we do that?

Who taught us that?

Was it the fear of sounding arrogant?

Did we grow up believing that accepting a compliment somehow meant we were full of ourselves?

Was it years of criticism that made praise feel unfamiliar?

Or have we spent so much time focusing on our flaws that we've become blind to the good everyone else seems to see?

This is just my opinion, but think about this...

Maybe the compliment almost isn't the point anymore.

Someone says something like, "You're really good at what you do," or "I love being around you," or "You helped me," and suddenly they're not just saying something nice.

They're telling you they see you.

And isn't that something we all want at some point in our lives? To truly be seen?

But here's the thing...

Being seen can be scary too.

Because being seen means somebody noticed. They noticed something about you that maybe you don't recognize in yourself... or something you haven't quite allowed yourself to believe yet.

And then there's another layer...

Sometimes we're comfortable being seen for what we do.

We work hard. We help. We show up. We take care of people. We accomplish things.

But when someone compliments who we are... our knowledge, our kindness, our strength, our presence, or even the way we make them feel... that can feel much more vulnerable.

Because there's nowhere to hide behind the accomplishment.

But here's the thing...

When someone gives you a compliment, for just a moment, you're seeing yourself through someone else's eyes.

Mmm...

Let that sit with you for a minute.

Because maybe, for just a moment, we get a glimpse of ourselves without all the baggage we normally carry around.

We know every mistake we've made. Every insecurity. Every time we screwed something up. Every little thing about ourselves we'd like to change.

But they don't necessarily see all of that when they look at us.

They may see the person who knows what they're talking about.

The friend who always shows up.

The person who makes them laugh.

The person who makes them feel comfortable.

The person who walks into a room and somehow makes it a little better just by being there.

Meanwhile, we're standing there thinking...

"Me? Really?" πŸ˜‚

But what if, instead of immediately dismissing the compliment, we became curious about it?

Instead of thinking...

"They're wrong."

What if you let the compliment become a part of you...

Let your heart open up.

Let it sink in.

Maybe they're not wrong.

Maybe they're seeing a version of you that you just haven't embraced yet.

So the next time you receive a compliment...

Don't brush it off. Don't explain it away.

Embrace it with all your being.

Because maybe, just maybe, they're seeing something in you that it's time you started seeing too.
