Adulthood and Freedom: It’s Not What You Think
Come, come sit with me. Grab your drink and pull up a chair.
Alright… today my head was floating.
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to tell you about… something funny, or maybe something deep and reflective… but honestly, nothing was really landing.
And I almost didn’t write.
But then something crossed my mind…
Don’t you find that time is just… speeding by?
Like right now… it’s April.
April.
I feel like we were just talking about the start of the year, and now here we are already moving through it.
Where is time going?
I swear, sometimes I just want it to slow down… just a little.
LOL.
And then I started thinking…
I remember being a kid, and for some reason, I couldn’t wait to be 35.
(Why 35? I honestly have no idea ๐)
I remember telling my mom that I couldn’t wait to be older… and all the freedom I was going to have…
Yeah…
She did that laughing thing too.
You know the one… where they don’t even say anything… they just laugh like they already know something you don’t yet.
I thought being an adult would give me total freedom…
Yeah… freedom…
Okay, you can all stop laughing now ๐
You know… the freedom to come and go when you want, stay up as late as you want, have your own money… all those adult things.
But nobody really tells you…
that being an adult is just
freedom…
with a side of responsibilities you never actually signed up for ๐
So here we are…
in our FREEDOM…
with bills, schedules, and responsibilities riding shotgun ๐
Oh… to be that kid again… but know what I know now.
Would I still want to be a kid?
Honestly… no.
Because even though life can be hard, and responsibilities can weigh us down sometimes…
it’s our life.
As a kid, you think you have no freedom… because your parents are always telling you what to do.
And then you grow up… and realize you do have freedom… just with a side of responsibilities.
Back then, we didn’t really understand the kind of freedom we were looking for…
But my mom knew.
She could have at least warned me… LOL ๐
Whisper: “Freedom isn’t the absence of responsibility… it’s having a life that’s yours to carry.”
